Abstract

Implementation of green infrastructure is an approach used in green growth and low carbon development, which has become popular and is increasingly common, placed. It has the ability to provide a wide range of public and private functions and values, which address both natural and human needs while benefiting both. Over the last several years significant strides have been made to find better development patterns that are healthier for both society and the environment. Planners, developers, designers, and public officials have developed and pushed for "green" ideas and development. The goals behind this were the creation of healthy, walk-able, sustainable communities. A major tool in the greening of American has been the implementation / utilization of green infrastructure The chapter Utilization and Implementation of Green Infrastructure through GIS based Modeling addresses this major component of green growth and low carbon development. Green infrastructure is identified and its applications in planning are discussed. The main content focuses on how to create a basic suitability model that could be used to determine the more ideal locations for the implementation of green infrastructure. The utilization of one of these models is seen in the Town of Berlin because nothing is more useful than practical application and visualization. In all a strong fundamental knowledge of green infrastructure and the methods used in GIS based suitability modeling are garnered from this chapter.
