Abstract

The postulation of species-specific responses resulting from evolutionary adaptation has challenged the generality of the laws of learning and has been emphasized in recent experimental studies of the extinction of water and food motivated learning. We report that deprivation level and intertrial session interval may confound such studies. When proper controls are instituted, both water and food motivated learning results in increased responding during initial extinction.
