Abstract

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a malignant tumor which occurs mostly in children and adolescents less than 21 years of age. It arises from primitive mesenchyme and presents as a mass in virtually any location in the body. This article provides an up-to-date summary of the important advances made in elucidating the natural history and biology of the disease, along with results of primarily North American clinical research trials of treatment with surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.
