Reliability of CFRP-strengthened concrete members in aggressive service environments

Abstract

This paper presents the reliability aspect of concrete members strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites with emphasis on flexural strengthening and axial confinement. A two-phase experimental program has been conducted and corresponding results are used to develop probability models along with a Monte-Carlo simulation technique. Refined design factors are proposed to enhance the in-situ performance of CFRP-strengthened members subjected to aggressive service environments such as freeze-wet-dry and significant traffic load.
