Abstract

Adult patients with mental retardation and concurrent mental illness or severe behavior disorders that require non-acute psychiatric hospitalization pose significant challenges to clinicians. The optimal psychiatric and medical care that ought to be provided continues as evolving issues in our communities. This article begins to address the broad needs of psychiatric and medical care that must be provided for these complicated patients.
