Preparation, properties and structure of uncommon (10,3)-a netted rare earth complexes with an amide type tripodal ligand

Abstract

Solid complexes of rare earth nitrates with a new amide type tripodal ligand, 1,3,5-trimethyl-2,4,6-tris{[(2′-benzylaminoformyl)phenoxyl]methyl} benzene (L) have been prepared in ethyl acetate. These complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy. The crystal and molecular structures of the complex [Sm(NO3)3L] n have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The whole structure consists of an infinite array of trigonal Sm(III) ions bridged by tridentate ligands, and a (10,3)-a net is formed, which is, to our best knowledge, the first example of a (10,3)-a net directed by RE(III) ions. At the same time, the luminescence properties of the Eu(III) and Tb(III) complexes were also studied.
