Abstract

The study of ultra-intense and ultra-short laser light pulses produced from ″Table Top″ compressed-pulse laser systems and their interaction with the plasmas produced form solid targets or from gas in an explosively growing field. This effort should result in the production of bright ultra-short pulse X-ray sources for rapid diagnostics with many applications in chemistry and related fields. Success here will, however, require considerable improvement in the understanding of target interactions for optimum results, which in turn implies major improvements in diagnostics and in simulation/ theory.
