Abstract
This study measured the oxygen cost, energy expenditure, and heart rate of slideboarding at 3 selected cadences. Thirty healthy men, ages 19 to 32, did slideboarding at 42, 48, and 54 bpm and at a distance of 1.83 m until achieving a steady rate. Ten subjects repeated the protocol for test-retest reliability. A one-way ANOVA for repeated measures and Tukey post hoc tests indicated significant (p < 0.05) differences between cadences for all mean V̇O2s. Intraclass correlation coefficients and correlated t tests were used for test-retest data. There were strong correlations for repeated test measures of r = 0.81, 0.93, and 0.91 for the respective cadences, and no significant differences between repeated test means. The results show that the oxygen cost of slideboarding was comparable to other forms of aerobic exercise.
