Nanocomposite Nd-Fe carbides made by melt-spinning

Abstract

The effect of wheel speed and annealing including rapid thermal annealing were examined on the magnetic and structural properties of Nd15 Fe78.5 C5.5 B ribbons. Optimal coercivities in the range of 10-14 kOe have been obtained for different wheel speeds. However, the magnetic hysteresis loops of the conventionally heat-treated ribbons often show a step in the demagnetization curve, which was found to be correlated with the presence of large regions with bcc Fe structure. These regions can be shrunk significantly by using the method of the rapid annealing resulting in the elimination of the step.
