Abstract

Mycobacterium xenopi is classically a respiratory pathogen affecting immunocompromised hosts, which rarely causes extrapulmonary disease. We present a case of vertebral osteomyelitis and psoas abscess secondary to M. xenopi in an immunocompetent host. The case highlights the difficulties in diagnosing and treating M. xenopi infections. A literature review and treatment recommendations are presented.
