Abstract

Medical malpractice occurs worldwide; the USA has the greatest problem, reaching crisis proportions, affecting healthcare delivery and access to care. Rates of thyroid surgery and carcinoma incidence seem to be increasing in the USA. Healthcare personnel frustrated with lack of litigation reform are looking for litigation prevention through education, analysis and management strategies by analysing data from professional legal services from past litigation summaries. Studies from head and neck sites, including thyroid and parathyroid, have been done. We highlight these studies, attempting to identify solutions, areas of concern and potential risk management, and prevention strategies.
