ISOTOPIC RATIONS IN FAST ATOM BOMBARDMENT MASS SPECTROMETRY.

Abstract

The isotopic distribution pattern of an ion can be important information pertaining to its elemental composition particularly for halogen- or isotopically rich metal-containing species. To evaluate the accuracy of the isotopic ratios obtained by FAB several classes of compounds were analyzed in both the positive and negative ion modes. The observed ratios were compared to theoretical values calculated using the natural abundances of the atoms in the sample.
