Abstract

In 1986, the first case of HIV in India was diagnosed in a commercial sex worker. Twenty two years since then, India has the third largest number of HIV infected people in the world. This review focuses on the social and scientific factors that need to be considered to fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic in India.
