Abstract

1. 1. Pancreatic secretion was studied in starved and fed Syrian hamsters. 2. 2. pH did not change over the 20-hr collection period. 3. 3. Flow rate increased steadily through 10-12hr at which time it remained constant or decreased slowly. 4. 4. Protein concentration was higher in starved than in fed animals and decreased with time in both. 5. 5. Ionic concentrations were seen to vary with K+ and Na+ remaining constant, while Ca2+ and Mg2+ decreased with time. HCO-3 and Cl- exhibited a complementary relationship and their combined total decreased with time as did SO2-4 and PO2-4. 6. 6. DNA and protein synthesis were evaluated in pancreatic tissue.
