Abstract

As the machine vision promises to play a crucial role in the success of future flexible computer-integrated manufacturing, it is imperative to explore and develop techniques that improve data processing speed and accuracy, and reduce the cost and time of storing or transmitting data. This paper presents a data-compression scheme that reduces the size of the database while maintaining the amount of distortion to an acceptable minimum. A brief review of the state-of-the-art techniques employed in various aspects of image processing in machine vision technology also is included.
