Abstract

This article addressed the opportunity for companion studies as a vehicle for oncology nursing research. Many opportunities exist for companion study and the work of prior nurse researchers can serve as models of inquiry. A variety of methods may be useful in companion studies. Application of basic research procedures, essential to any scientific investigation, will ensure the quality of the knowledge derived from nursing studies. Oncology nurses are urged to reach for the "roses" among the "thorns.".
