Abstract

Bordetella pertussis bacterium is the main cause of whooping cough which is a highly contagious disease affecting the lungs. Outbreaks of whooping cough have increased over the past few years and have led to infant deaths over multiple states in the US and has drawn the attention of health care providers. The goal of our research is to develop a mathematical epidemiology model that can help in understanding how the disease is spread in the state of Nebraska.
